Government

National and regional agencies, ministries and intergovernmental bodies have a central role in the International Year of the Bats.

  • Recognise IYBats 2027 through an official statement, proclamation or inclusion in national biodiversity communications.
  • Support science-based bat protection: roost protection, habitat conservation, and management approaches that reduce conflict between people and bats. Culling bats is more likely to increase, not decrease, disease risk.
  • Adopt One Health communication about bats and public health, using clear, non-sensationalised language. Our toolkit offers a framework.
  • Amplify national networks: help your country’s bat researchers and NGOs reach schools, media and communities.
  • Join the partnership: agencies can be listed as IYBats partners and contribute to the global events programme.
